Before you begin

Goals

What are we trying to do? Well outside of gaining some firsthand practice at just interacting with z/VM, I'd like to set a goal of having a, what I consider to be, fully usable and fit-for-purpose z/VM host which I can use to start VM workloads without any additional tinkering to get things "just right" along the way.

z/VM Version

I will be writing this tutorial with z/VM 7.1 in mind, but I expect that any changes needed to apply this to another revision of z/VM is a matter of applying some common sense.
